Inspiration for what I wear comes from pretty much everywhere – from the girl in the street who has put together an outfit in a unique way to on-screen style in the movies to just browsing fashionistas’ blogs. But inevitably it’s also about what celebrities are wearing because they often have access to the latest collections and the most cutting-edge stylists, so it’s no wonder they have their finger on the fashion pulse.
Adele’s MBE style
Just when you thought Adele’s star couldn’t possibly soar any further, she was awarded an MBE for services to music. And, along with the accolade, the 25-year-old Skyfall singer should have been given an award for her beautiful hair, make-up and nails. She rarely strays far from her trademark Sixties style, but simply ramped it up a bit for her big day at the Palace. Her hair was swept back in a gorgeous bun, given oomph with the use of a hair donut, and her eyes were given impact with an extra thick flick of classic black eye liner. But her nail art was what I really fell in love with and I’m going to be theming my nails to the occasion I’m attending from now on. According to celebrity nail technician Mike Pocock, they were created using Nail Rock’s Frou Frou, with the crown applique applied while the varnish was still tacky to the touch.
Eva Longoria’s look-at-me dress
I always thought Gabrielle, aka Eva Longoria, was the most stylish of the Desperate Housewives. She knows exactly how to dress her tiny frame for the most impact without looking as if she is being worn by her clothes rather than the other way round. And, now that she and Victoria Beckham are best mates, her sense of style has only improved. She’s recently been spotted on a dinner date in Beverley Hills in a loosely tailored hot pink dress. I absolutely love the version from La Redoute which is in the same stunning shade but which has a unique layered effect which will see me through from winter to summer. I’ll be wearing it with an oversized clutch bag and a pair of simple black heels. Then, when the weather warms up, it’s perfect teamed with neutral accessories for summer weddings.
Blogger Ella Caitliff’s clashing prints
Ella Caitliff’s La Petite Anglaise site is one of my favourite fashion blogs. And while she’s often writing about what A-listers are wearing, it’s her own style that I like to read about. She always puts her outfits together in a way I wouldn’t necessarily think about, making me take a fresh look at what I have in my own wardrobe. I love the fact she’s not afraid to experiment with prints and colour. And I think I’m going to be ‘borrowing’ the way she’s clashed prints here with her tiger print top and A-line skirt. This tiger printed tee gives a different take on the leather tee. I’ll be teaming it with a watercolour pencil skirt like this one from Honor, which is perfect for bringing in spring/summer 2014’s artwork trend.
