HOW I GOT MY DEWY SKIN BACK

Have you ever tried using facial soaps? Honestly as I can remember, I haven't tried one before. Since I got these, I realized something. I always opt for facial products in containers like tubes and pump bottles. Maybe it's not very common to have facial wash as a soap. These products changed the way I do my morning routines.

Most of you know that I have super oily skin back in 2011. But when I started working, I spend most of my day in our exaggeratedly air-conditioned office. That triggered my skin to get super dry. It made it flaky and itchy. It's more worst that having an oily skin. Believe me, it's much harder to work with dry skin. Especially when applying makeup. Back then, I used products with oil control formulas that did contribute a lot to make my skin super dry. I nearly forgot that the skin still needs a little bit of moisture to get smooth and repair itself. Now, I'm trying every product (and drinking a lot of H2O) to bring back the moisture of my skin.

I have just discovered it! Let me share to you my very first experience with facial soaps! :)

HORTALEZA, M.D. ACNESOL FACIAL SOAP GLYCERIN-BASED WITH TEA TREE OIL
PRODUCT INFO:
  • With Tea Tree Oil - a natural antibacterial
  • Helps dry-out pimples
  • Salicylic Acid helps ex-foliate skin
  • Mild, glycerin-based formula
  • Made in the Philippines
  • 3.35oz. / 95g
MY THOUGHTS: rating []
It has a strong minty scent to it. Which I don't really like about facial products. But because it's pink, I tried it first. (lol. I'm too addicted eh?) The soap is translucent. It did gave me a bit of refreshing feeling after use. But disappears after a while. I'm very impressed with this soap. This helped me bring back by dewy skin!!!! It even softened my skin after a couple of use. Good thing I have two of these! :D I gave it a rating of 4 diamonds just because I don't like the tea tree scent XD

HORTALEZA, M.D. PURESSENCE FACIAL SOAP WITH GLYCERIN
PRODUCT INFO:
  • Cleanses without drying skin
  • Non-alkali formulation
  • Made in the Philippines
  • 3.35 oz. / 95g
MY THOUGHTS: rating []
I think this is the mildest of all three soaps. It does do the job of cleaning my face with all that makeup. As I've said earlier, I do have a very dry skin, that I have to use day cream everyday to lessen the flakes on my face T_T It's really cold in the office, so my skin really dries up and creates flakes especially on my chin and cheeks area :( But when I started using this soap, it moisturized most of my flake-y area. I can even skip my day cream! :)

HORTALEZA, M.D. ILLUMINOUS PLUS FACIAL SOAP GLYCERIN-BASED WITH GLUTHATHIONE & ARBUTIN
PRODUCT INFO:
  • With TinyWhite to help lighten skin
  • Helps lighten blemishes and dark spots on the face
  • Mild glycerin-based formula
MY THOUGHTS: rating []
First of all, the color is very unusual. I hesitated to use it on my face at first. There is something about the smell of this soap. I can't really explain it enough. It smells like a mild pomade or "pamada" in tagalog (if you know what that is) But it's okay. It helped even out my skin tone after a week of use. Evens out most of my discolorations. Lessen my dark spots a bit, but not totally removed. Maybe I need to use it longer.

If you noticed, these soaps all carry the word GLYCERIN. I really have no idea of what or how it works. So, I did my homework for you! I researched and made some assumptions. (lol. I hope this explanation of mine make sense)

WHAT IS GLYCERIN? (with the help of google & pioneerthinking)
Glycerin is a neutral, sweet-tasting, colorless, thick liquid which freezes to a gummy paste and which has a high boiling point. Glycerin can be dissolved into water or alcohol, but not oils. On the other hand, many things will dissolve into glycerin easier than they do into water or alcohol. So it is a good solvent. Glycerin is also highly "hygroscopic" which means that it absorbs water from the air. Example: if you left a bottle of pure glycerin exposed to air in your kitchen, it would take moisture from the air and eventually, it would become 80 per glycerin and 20 percent water.

To make it simple, regular soaps (without glicerin) tends to make your skin very dry (maybe that's the main reason why companies make facial wash in a non-solid state). HBC did a good job on adding glicerin on their facial soaps. With that said, their soaps will add more moisture to the skin with it's very natural way through the use of glycerin. Sounds amazing, right?

OVERALL: [◇]
The price is very afforadble considering it's a facial soap. Packaging is just right. Not very special. I think they're trying to make it look clinical. The only bad thing I've noticed with this product is you have to keep it in a dry and clean container. Or it might get all melted! No way I'm gonna waste this product! :D Also, I don't recommend this to those who already have oily skin. It will surely trigger your oil glands more. We don't want that to happen. XD

If you're interested to try these soaps out, you can go to any HBC branch near you or visit their site for more information www.hbc.com.ph.

Have you tried any of these yet? How did it worked for you? Let me now in the comment box! :)

  3. Na amaze ako sa color ng soaps. Parang natetemp akong bumili, kaya lang, just like what you've mentioned, it will not work for oily skin. I have extremely oily skin! My gulay! It's like a SUMPA! lol. And yes, i-add mo pa ang super acne scars. Just can't find the right product for this dilemma! lol.

  20. Hi Kat, great reviews. The concept of facial soaps in bar form was also something I kind of forgot about too. After I started working for LUSH I started experimenting with using facial soap bars and they've worked wonders. Glycerine as the key ingredient in these are definitely beneficial in restoring the moisture balance to your skin. Again, great review!
